Stereolithography (SLA)
SLA models and patterns can be produced in a matter of hours from any popular CAD system. Starting with STL, IGES or CAD data, engineers will guide you through your most detailed projects every step of the way to guarantee timely turnover. Due to their accuracy and ability to reproduce intricate details, SLA models are perfect to use as form and fit studies, master patterns for a variety of molding techniques and concept models. You can colour-match a custom colour and texture your model to give your give it a production quality. This additive manufacturing process, which is similar to the above polyjet matrix printing, uses a combination of a UV laser and resin to construct rapid 3D prototypes one layer at a time – at an incredibly quick rate. SLA is among the most accurate 3D Rapid Prototyping technologies available. With data from a CAD model, the laser scans and traces each cross section on the exterior of the liquid resin. After a laser heats the resin to a solid, it becomes fused with the layer beneath it. The building tray lowers as it prints, so the process can repeat and your model can be built one layer at a time. After construction is complete, the prototype is immersed in a chemical bath that removes and excess resin. Finally, the product is cured in a UV oven to complete the process.
